Hollywood Auction 49 by the numbers

Today I write about Profiles in History as an outsider. It is a weird feeling. I had a conversation this morning with someone and had to refrain myself from using the pronoun, “we.” After 14 years, you can’t simply turn off what has been part of your identity for so long.

Anyway, Profiles had a little event called the Hollywood Auction #49 the last two days, which came after the Dreier Collection and Animation auctions over the weekend. While Day 1 of Hollywood 49 brought in a respectable $1.2M hammer, Day 2 knocked it out of the park with an astounding $4.5M hammer.

At times, it was surreal to see prices escalate at a furious pace for items that were not expected to perform that well. It is still somewhat of a blur to me, given the emotions that were swirling inside all day. But I can’t help being in awe looking at these numbers now.

Consider for the whole auction:

Total hammer price – $5,729,695
Total number of lots – 1022
Number of lots sold – 719
Unsold lots – 303
Sell rate – 70.35%
Average price per lot sold – $7,968.98

The entire four day of auctions brought $9.5M hammer ($11.4M with buyer’s premium) and over 1,600 lots sold. This is staggering. Once again, Profiles has further cemented itself as a place for high-end collectibles. The implications for other things are debatable, but the prices speak for themselves.

Here are the highest selling lots from Hollywood 49:

My cousin was estatic and very pleased with the realized auction hammer price of his item(The Godfather Assasination Overcoat) kudos to Profiles In History for once again coming through as the premier auctioneers of legendary movie memorabilia in the land.
