Game of Thrones: A Brief Commentary of the Season Thus Far

Spoiler Alert: If you haven’t read the books of A Song of Fire and Ice, which the TV show Game of Thrones is based on, then stop reading now.

Sidebar: Was tonight’s episode the first of this season that did not contain nudity?

Anyway, I am a big fan of the TV show and a bigger fan of the George R.R. Martin’s books. So far, the show is pretty dead on with the cast and the look and feel of everything. The Iron Born are as hard as they should be; the Northmen as blunt; and the Brothers of the Night’s Watch as grim. Davos Seaworth is great. Tywin Lannister is fantastic. Dinklage as Tyrion is the best of all.

Here is what I’m looking forward to the rest of Season Two:

  • Mance Rayder, the King-Beyond-the-Wall
  • The Unsullied
  • Battle of the Blackwater
  • The Red Wedding
  • Dragons!

I’m a hundred pages into A Dance with Dragons and therefore about a season, or a season and a half, ahead of the TV show. My favorite characters so far are Tyrion Lannister and Jon Snow. Yes, I must have a soft spot for bastards.

  1. I am pretty pleased with all of the love Benioff and crew have given to the books. Brienne is spot on, love the stuff at Pyke, and can’t wait to see the rest!
